Undaunted by the refusal of the board of commissioners to regulate their opening and closing hours, the 40 kosher butchers of this city still hope that the board will recognize their petition and legislate for their benefit following a thorough survey of existing conditions.
Only 2 per cent of the Kosher butchers in the city have objected to city regulation. They have been backed up by Mayor Johnson and the board.
At the present moment, stores open at 6 o’clock in the morning and close at nearly midnight. In a public statement issued by L. Goldman, president of the Passaic Butchers and Poultry association, he declares that these late hours impair health.
The association will continue to fight for city regulation.
