Consul General’s sailing. The Consulate dismissed questions regarding Borchers’ departure and the Austrian Nazi situation briefly but courteously.

The North German Lloyd dismissed questions briefly.

“What do you care?” a spokesman for the line asked a reporter for the Jewish Daily Bulletin, when queried as to whether or not the Consul General had sailed.

After some persuasion the line official admitted that Borchers had gone abroad, but he would not admit on which ship. Borchers’ name did not appear on the sailing list.

The Austrian Consulate General here yesterday reported it was without official news on the situation in the homeland. A spokesman expressed the opinion that a serious Nazi coup “was not possible.”

Walter Kappe, a leader of the League of Friends of New Germany, didn’t believe the Austrian Nazis could be seriously considering gaining power just now.

“This little group of daring Nazis,” he said, “merely wish to show the Austrians the weakness of the present Dollfuss administration. Eventually the Austrian Nazis will gain power, but not through this attempt. When they do, their policies will be the same as the policies of the Nazi administration of Germany.”
