Dr. Carl Diem, secretary general of the German Olympic Committee, declared in a newspaper interview here that the “race principle” no longer exists in the preparation and organization of the Olympic Games.

“I can only repeat what Dr. Lewald has already declared in Vienna,” he said. “All German and foreign sportsmen and athletes who fullfil the Olympic conditions will be welcome in Berlin.

“We have included the Jewish sportsman Rudi Ball officially as a member of the German ice hockey team. Months ago we notified Helen Mayer, who is now in California, that she will head our women’s fencing team. We have just selected six athletes belonging to a Jewish sports club, who will participate in the Olympic preparatory games for Germany, which will start shortly.

“So you see,” Dr. Diem concluded, “with what loyalty Germany is carrying out her undertaking given at Vienna.”
