Six ringleaders of the recent anti-Semitic excesses in Turkish Thrace which led to pogroms and to the expulsion of hundreds of Jewish families from their homes were today sentenced to serve jail terms ranging from three to six months.
Three high officials of the city of Kirlisse, where the worst excesses occurred, were acquitted. Among them were the mayor of the city, the chief of police and the president of the local chamber of commerce.
Thrace, which resulted in pogroms and the expulsions of Jews from the province, has spread to Thrace. Greek anti-Semites are accusing the Jews of boycotting Christian stores and of spreading pro-Turkish propaganda.
