Dr. Philip L. Seman, general director of the Jewish Peoples’ Institute of Chicago, yesterday was elected chairman of Mayor Edward J. Kelly’s new recreation committee at its organization meeting in the mayor’s office. An increased program of recreation for Chicago’s children and adults was discussed.
“There is a sweeping trend toward more leisure time for all of us,” said Dr. Seman, “and we must find ways and means of filling in this time if we are to prevent delinquency and indolence. The answer may be in the development of Chicago’s Lake Shore World’s Fair site as a center of healthful recreation, amusement and education.”
