Denial of reports that the Central Savings Bank of New York had contributed funds to the Nazi movement in this country has been made by August Sidler, secretary of the institution, in a letter to Ezekiel Rabinowitz, secretary of the Non-Sectarian Anti-Nazi League.
The letter came in reply to inquiries made by the League, because of numerous complaints received by the League office that such contributions had been made. Officers of the bank are largely of German extraction. Mr. Sidler’s letter reads in part:
“We beg to acknowledge receipt of your inquiry in which you state that you are in receipt of many inquiries as to whether or not it is true that this institution has any affiliations with the Nazi movement in this country or abroad and whether any of its officials have made contributions to this cause.
“We appreciate the care which you exercise to avoid giving misleading information and, accordingly, pleased to inform you that neither this institution nor any of its officials have any affiliations or sympathy with the Nazi movement and have not made and are not inclined to make any contributions in support of it.
“It is quite inconceivable that any such affiliation or sympathy should exist. You can, therefore, safely dismiss inquiries indicating a belief that they might exist.”
