Objection to a decision of the Berlin District Court, in which the refusal of the Registry Court to register the Cultural League of German Jews was reversed, has been voiced here by the League of National Socialist German Lawyers, through its central organ, The Deutsche Recht.
The paper attempts to justify its objection to the decision on the ground that there are no German Jews in the same sense that are no Polish or French Jews.
“It is impossible for us to understand the decision of the Court,” the article says. “First of all, we have no guarantee that because of what the statutes say, the Jewish Culture League does not also pursue anti-State aims, but apart from that it is intolerable to associate Jewish cultural efforts in any way with German culture. It is precisely that against which the National Socialist movement is fighting.”
Jews here, however, are in disagreement with The Deutsche Recht, maintaining that the paper’s stand is based upon a complete failure to realize the actual conditions. They point out that the District Court in handing down its decision said that the aims of the organization appear to be in no way political, and according to the statutes are exclusively cultural.
The Juedische Rundschau, the Zionist newspaper, has remarked that both the formation of the Jewish Culture League and its name and aims were known to the Ministry, and were approved by it
