Further impetus to the spread of the boycott on Nazi goods has been given by the action of a number of leading department stores in Boston and other New England communities.

This announcement was made yesterday by the Boycott Committee of the American Jewish Congress on the basis of a report received from Rabbi J. S. Shubow, executive director of the New England office of the American Jewish Congress. The committee has canvassed to proprietors and managers of department stores in New England to ascertain their attitude towards the anti-Nazi boycott. The following stores have declared their adherence to the boycott policy: E. T. Slattery Company, Tremont street, Boston; Chandler £ Co., Boston; Conrad & Co., Boston; Enterprise Department stores, Cambridge, Mass.; Harvard Bazar, Inc., Cambridge, Mass.; Timothy Smith Company, Roxbury, Mass.; Gorin’s Inc., Somerville, Mass.; Young Novelty Co., Inc., Boston.

An interesting feature in this New England development is the statement made by T. V. Houser, general merchandise manager of Sears, Roebuck and Co. “We have decided that the fair thing to do to all concerned is to indicate plainly on every article of merchandise, and on every quotation in our catalogue, the country of origin on all imported goods. In this way customers may make their own decision based upon a full statement of fact,” declared Mr. Houser, as the policy of Sears, Roebuck & Co. in regard to the anti-Nazi boycott.
