The death of Henry P. Rainey, Speaker of the House, who passed away in St. Louis yesterday, leaves a vacancy that may possibly be filled by Representative Adolph J. Sabath of Illinois. Representative Sabath, with a record of fifteen consecutive terms, would get the post if the seniority succession rule is strictly observed.

However, Mr. Sabath is not a candidate for the Speaker ship, according to a report from Chicago.
