Harlem public opinion seems to be against the “black Hitler.”
The Citizens Committee of Fair Play, a committee representing 200 organizations endeavoring to have white Harlem merchants employ Negroes, has outlawed Hamid and his organization.
Fred H. Moore, editor of the New York Age, influential Harlem publication, told this reporter that the committee has called a truce on picketing Harlem stores to enable the committee to negotiate with business men. Hamid, he said, violated the truce and continued picketing.
Last week, in an interview, Hamid said he was born in Egypt. In applying to the Police Department for a pistol permit, it was later learned, he gave Georgia as his place of birth.
A reporter faced him with this discrepancy.
