The Plains-States Regional Conference of Jewish Community Centers and Welfare Funds is now organized into a permanent body as a result of action taken here at sessions attended by 200 delegates.
Robert Lappen and Mrs. Max Mayer, both of Des Moines, were named chairman and secretary, respectively, of the conference. The conferences will meet annually convening again in October, 1935, at Des Moines.
Themes discussed at the Omaha conference included community organization and community leadership, Jewish welfare work, aims and objectives of Jewish education, the morale building opportunities of the Jewish Centers, and the present crisis in Jewish life.
By resolution the conference continued its affiliation with the National Council of Jewish Federations and Welfare Funds expressed concern over the welfare of social service agencies, recommended that competent field service be made available to small communities, that Jewish education serve all elements of Jewash population and be included as part of the community program, and that private social agencies in family welfare and child care be continued.
Speakers at the conference included Dr. Philip L. Sman, executive director of the Jewish People’s Institute of Chicago; George W. Rabinoff, executive director of the National Council of Jewish Federations and Welfare Funds; Dr. G. J. Gordon, of Minneapolis; Miss Blanche Renard, of St. Louis; Gilbert Harris, of St. Louis, and Ferdinand M. Isserman. Philip M. Klutznick and Jacob S. Pearlstien of Omaha were chairman and secretary of the session.
