The United Jewish Community drive of this city was closed with the announcement that 620 members had been enrolled whose membership dues totalled $18,134. This equals the total number of members enrolled last year and shows an increase of approximately $2,500 in the total amount of membership dues.
At the closing meeting of the campaign, Paul Goldblatt, executive director of the Harrisburg United Jewish Community said: “Every Jewish community in America is watching this interesting experiment, the so-called ‘Harrisburg plan.’ The ability of this plan to work its way into the consciousness of every Jewish citizen in our community has been demonstrated by the whole-hearted backing given during the past week. The Executive Council will endeavor to develop a more intensive program of educational activities during the coming year so that not only will we feel closer to our own Jewish communal life and development, but, in addition, we shall become more cognizant of our relationship to the entire Jewish scheme of things.”
The Harrisburg plan includes the assumption of an educational and cultural program for the locality as well as the full responsibility for a charitable program.
