As a result of pressure by orthodox Jewish organizations, three large Bronx poultry markets yesterday signed agreements with the Kashruth Association to submit to rabbinical supervision including attachment of leg-bands to chickens to certify kosher slaughtering.
The pressure took the form of resolutions, sermons and the outlawing of three insurgent rabbis who supervised markets in defiance of the Kashruth Association.
Sitting as ecclesiastical tribunal, the Bronx Vaad Harabonim, rabbinical body, barred Rabbis Raphael M. Barishansky, Israel Mofshovitz and Judah Hahn from carrying out rabbinical prerogatives which included supervision of poultry markets.
