A slashing indictment of land speculation in Palestine coupled with a warning that the Jews of the world are becoming too complacent about Palestine as result of prosperity stories was delivered yesterday afternoon by Louis Lipsky, American member of the World Zionist executive, in an address at the Hotel Pennsylvania before the Jewish National Fund Council of Greater New York. The veteran Zionist also espoused the labor movement as the Jews’ greatest contribution to Palestine and he hailed the Jewish National Fund as the foundation of the Zionist movement and “the most democratic aspect of it.”
In one casual reference to the proposed Legislative Council which Jewry has so universally opposed, Mr. Lipsky said “it seems to be lost in the ocean somewhere between London and Palestine.”
Speaking on the Palestine boom, Mr. Lipsky stated that “Palestine is building itself up and has all the symptoms of a boom.” He said that the same brokers, speculators and profiteers that used to be seen in the Bronx during the building boom there are now to be seen on the streets of Tel Aviv and other industrial centers in Palestine. Jewry should be concerned, he said, over this situation.
PLEADS FOR JNF
Stating that money, and outward signs of prosperity, are not the way to build a Jewish National Home, the speaker made a plea for the Jewish National Fund as a fundamental of true prosperity in Palestine.
