As the result of a casual wish expressed to a group of admirers after a concert in Edinburgh, Yehudi Menuhin, boy violinist, was able to inspect at close range the new British ocean liner, Queen Mary.
Menuhin told his admirers that he had paid a visit to the Forth Bridge and above all was anxious to see the new liner.
Standing among the admirers of the violin virtuoso was M. D. Skeffington, manager of the John Brown Shipyard, where the liner is being built. He immediately offered to escort Menuhin to the yard and take him around.
