A plea that stories told children too young to understand the concept should not contain mention of God was made by Dr. Leo L. Honor, director of the Board of Jewish Education of Chicago, at the sixth annual Institute of the Jewish Religious School Teachers’ Association of Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia.
“We have no right to stuff children’s minds with what we ourselves do not believe,” the speaker said, referring to “primitive” notions frequently given children. He urged a program of instruction suitable for the child mind.
Rabbi Edward L. Israel of Baltimore was chosen president for the coming year, succeeding Rabbi Abram Vossen Goodman of Cumberland, Md. Rabbi Theodore Gordon of Baltimore and Rabbi Maurice Goldblatt of Roanoke, Va., will be first and second vice-presidents, respectively.
