Schima Kaufman, author of “Mendelssohn, ‘A Second Elijah’ ” and a violinist in the Philadelphia Orchestra, was recently moved by the affronts to Mendelssohn in Germany to wire outstanding symphonic conductors, urging them to play more of Mendelssohn this season.
