The British government has ordered its Ambassador in Iraq to institute an inquiry on the ban of foreign Jewish papers in that country, Sir Philip Cunliffe-Lister, British Secretary of State for Colonies, today informed questioners in the House of Commons.
Sir Philip was also questioned by Barnett Janner, Major H. A. Proctor and Rhys Davies on matters affecting Palestine, including telegrams in Hebrew, the Palestine post office and the working municipal councils in Palestine.
He told questioners he had no official information on the question of Hebrew telegrams; no information was available on the post office situation and he would be glad to furnish information as soon as it became available.
He also informed the House of Commons he had no knowledge of whether High Commissioner Sir Arthur Grenfell Wauchope had established any other municipal councils, save those already in existence. Sir Philip said he knew only of the Jerusalem municipal elections, which was in the courts now, and that no decision had been announced as yet.
