Delegates to the eighteenth annual convention of the Mizrachi Organization of America, Orthodox Zionists, which opens here formally Sunday evening at the Hotel Statler, began to arrive here yesterday and the majority of the 200 delegates are expected here by nightfall in order to avoid traveling on the Sabbath.
Orthodox circles here have arranged pre-convention functions in honor of the delegates including Sabbath services, an address by Rabbi Mordecai Hirshprung and a “Melaveh Malke” on Saturday evening.
MAYOR TO GREET CONFEREES
The convention will get under way Sunday evening with an address of welcome by Mayor Frank Couzens of Detroit and greetings from Rabbi J. Aisishkin, Rabbi M. Hershman, Rabbi J. Stollman, Rabbi H. F. Epstein and Rabbi J. L. Graubart.
Rabbi Wolf Gold, president of Mizrachi, will read his annual message and Dr. Mordecai Nurok, world Mizrachi leader, will deliver an address on “The Jewish Problems in Various Countries.”
The first session will close with the election of convention officers and the appointment of various committees. The major part of the Monday sitting will be devoted to committee meetings. Tuesday morning the convention will listen to a general debate and reports of committees. New officers will be elected Tuesday afternoon and the convention will close with a banquet Tuesday evening.
