Congressman Samuel Dickstein, who last Sunday addressed a meeting of the Canadian Jewish Immigrant Aid Society, was the target today for a bitter attack by the French Canadian press because he criticized the immigration policy of the Canadian government.
He was branded by French Canadian newspapers as “an alien outsider” and insinuations were made as to his name and race.
L’Ordre vehemently scored him as “the propagandist Dickstein who came to Canada to influence the government to open the doors for expatriates of certain European countries. Such propaganda should not only be condemned, but even suppressed,” the paper declared.
Other papers hinted that the Canadian authorities should never have permitted Congressman Dickstein to enter the country.
French Canadian papers expressed determined opposition to opening the doors of Canada even to German refugees.
