Meanwhile members of the Haegele camp were chuckling over a bit of irrefutable evidence that Healey’s services are for sale to the highest bidder.
HAEGELE BIDS FOR HEALEY
Word was sent to him that Haegele had uncovered a new source of financial backing and was in the market for paid speakers at his meetings. Healey was given to understand he would receive a fee if he would renounce his Schnuch affiliations and join the Haegele ranks.
A written reply, containing Healey’s signature, was received from the boy, stating that he would be glad to change his colors in consideration of pay, and ending with the ‘closing’ salutation, “Heil Haegele!”
The last remnants of Schnuch’s Manhattan and Bronx support appeared to have vanished Friday, when it became evident that he had abandoned all efforts to hold meetings in those boroughs and was confining his activities to Brooklyn in the metropolitan area, where Joseph Schuster, one of his lieutenants, still holds sway.
