The French consulate in Saarbruecken was besieged today by hundreds of Jews asking for visas. The consulate is very liberal in issuing visas to the Jewish population, and makes no difficulties for Jews who wish to proceed from the Saar to France.
Saar Jewry will be incorporated in the Reich and be cared for by central German Jewish organizations, Dr. Bruno Weil, vice-president of the Central Union of German Citizens of the Jewish Faith, declared here on his arrival from Berlin.
Dr. Weil is here to confer with leaders of Saar Jewry and make plans for the future.
“I would advise the Jews of the Saar who were born and bred here like their predecessors for many generations not to emigrate, but to stay at home,” Dr. Weil declared in a statement to newspapermen. “I am certain.” he added, “that the time is coming when the position of the Jews in Germany will be eased.”
