Memorial services arranged in honor of Professor Fritz Haber, noted Jewish inventor famous for his chemical inventions during the war, will probably not take place, in view of an order issued yesterday by the Reich government prohibiting German professors from attending the rites.
The memorial was scheduled for January 29 and was arranged by the Kaiser Wilhelm Institute for Chemistry. The Minister of Education, however, notified all German universities to inform their professors that they were not to attend the services because “Professor Haber was dismissed for his hostile attitude towards the present government.”
Professor Haber resigned from his post in Germany in protest against the anti-Jewish discriminations. He then settled in Switzerland, where he died on January 29 of last year, a refugee.
