Pools of stagnant water on what was formerly waste land at Umm Khaled, Hanoun and Zamir are causing concern among inhabitants of the Northern Sharon plain, who fear the possibility of a malaria epidemic.
Malarial mosquitoes begin to breed in February. Water also has collected in other places as a result of floods early this month, and authorities are being urged to take immediate steps toward drainage.

Business and building activities may be seriously retarded if Summer visitors are discouraged from going to the Nathania seaside resort.
Anticipating delay in government repair of the Nathania-Tulkarem road, the Nathania Settlement Council has sent out gangs of laborers to mend the worst sections.
Only two buses are being run daily between Tel Aviv and Nathania, since a single trip requires from five to eight hours under present conditions. Normally five buses, each of which makes the journey in two hours, are run. The bus company threatens to suspend service entirely until repairs are made.
