The only clear facts to be gleaned from the McFadden publicity are that the Pennsylvanian would like to be elected President ### 1936 and that he doesn’t like Jews.
Otherwise, despite the many thousands of words contained in the announcement of his candidacy, McFadden becomes slightly obscure.
For instance, the organization which ostensibly is fostering him is variously referred to as the “Independent Republican National Christian-Gentile Committee” and the “Christian Economics Independent Republican National Committee.”
His attacks on the Jews teeter between damning them as incorrigible Communists and as grasping capitalists.
“JEWISH PLOT” TO THE FORE
“This committee consisting of both Catholies and Protestants, with a potential membership of many millions, is most desirous of placing itself on record against America’s entrance into World Court of the League of Nations,” his blurb states.
“The Christians of this great country are suspicious of the aims and objects of both the League of Nations and the World Court and we have every reason to believe, and do believe, that these two parliamentary units are nothing more or less than a plan of world-wide Jewry to enslave the entire world….
“Regardless of what the Jewish subsidized press of this country tries to convey to the Christian people that we can still adhere to the principals of the Monroe Doctrine, we fully know on the contrary, that by becoming a member of this international court, we immediately lose our identity as a nation and forfeit our pride and self-respect.
“SPIRIT” OF THE FOUNDERS
“You will forgive me if I have the courage of my convictions and the spirit of our forefathers in conveying to you a thought which is at present uppermost in my mind that this great country was founded and developed by a persecuted people and those people did not happen to be Jews but God-fearing Christians. The descendants of these people, who are still in a majority (over one hundred million strong), were the framers and signers of the Declaration of Independence who guaranteed to us freedom of speech, freedom of the press and above all, freedom of religion, which we Christians will defend with our lives as our forefathers did in 1776.
“The Jewish element are today in complete control of the press and the radio but they cannot, and never will, control the conscience of our great Christian church leaders and the membership therein and it is through these very people that we, the above committee, intend to carry our fight against any Congressman or Senator who will dare insult us by #ting for participation in the #orld Court.
“So we may place you on record, will you be kind enough to inform this committee at your earliest possible moment, what your convictions are regarding this un-American amendment which is now before the Congress of the United States.
“Please forgive me if I have intruded upon your valuable time but in all truthfulness, I may say that the only selfish motive that this committee has is the best interests of our country at heart.”

The United States as a principality of Nazi Germany was the roseate vision that anti-Semitic leaders here saw yesterday, when they learned that Louis T. McFadden has entered the arena as a candidate for President in 1936 on a Hate-the-Jews platform.
The enthusiasm of Royal Scott Gulden, impecunious leader of the discrimination-preaching Order of ’76, was unbounded when he was informed that the old Pennsylvania warhorse of racial antagonism still has a few snorts left in him.
“Mr. McFadden’s long experience on the House Banking Committee,” said Gulden, “has placed him in a position to bring out many facts of outstanding economic interest to the people of this country.”
DOUBTER DR. SCHNUCH
Asked whether he would accept the nomination for Vice-President on the McFadden ticket, Gulden blushed so deeply and with such self-conscious pleasure that his rising blood pressure could be detected even over the telephone.
“Well,” he said coyly, “I haven’t heard anything about that yet, but you know, McFadden is a fine man and he’ll get my support.”
Dr. Hubert Schnuch, national president of the Nazi League of Friends of New Germany, which has been reduced to a shambles by internecine revolt, was more cautious.
“Before I make a statement,” he said. “I want to be sure Mr. McFadden is a candidate.” The word of the Jewish Daily Bulletin reporter that the Pennsylvanian is in truth an aspirant wasn’t quite enough, declared Dr. Schnuch, who has become skeptical of everything and everyone since he learned that some of his best friends are double-crossers.
HAEGELE AND LUEDECKE ABSENT
Dr. Schnuch committed himself, however, to the extent of characterizing McFadden as “a courageous man” who has the right slant on things. He implied that as soon as he is certain the Pennsylvanian is actually a candidate, he will endorse him, for whatever the endorsement of a Nazi leader with almost no remaining following left is worth.
Anton Haegele, chieftain of the American National Socialist League, and Kurt Luedecke, his behind-the-scenes “boss” who is a fugitive from Nazi justice and who was convicted in Germany of extortion, could not be reached yesterday. They were over in New Jersey, laying plans for the complete disruption of the Schnuch clique.
EDMONDSON HOOKS ON TO WAGON
Robert Edward Edmondson, “investment economist” who peddles anti-Semitism at a penny a pamphlet from his dingy office in the Wall Street district, gave a rousing cheer in his cracked voice when he was told that McFadden’s battered hat is in the ring.
“He gets my support until a better man comes along,” said Edmondson. He made it clear that in his opinion better men than McFadden are few and far between.
And so it went all down the anti-Semitic line. The opinion was generally expressed that at last the forces of hatred and ignorance have a common banner under which they can unite and for the first time show their true strength in the United States.
