Police Confiscate Arms from Arabs

As result of a #eud between residents of the Arao village Sillet el Dahr, police who searched the village discovered a veritable arsenal, finding twenty-four serviceable rif##s and a large quantity of ammunition.

The trouble in the village broke out during the Ramadan, forty-day Mohammedan fast. During the battle which ensued, Abd el Aud, a bride-groom of a a week, was killed and four other people wounded. Fourteen were arrested by police. One of the injured died of his wounds later.

Up to a few years ago, possession of arms by Jewish villagers was illegal, but the government has since established sealed armories in the Jewish villages, which may be used only in a time of crisis.

Joseph Engel, the noted Hungarian sculptor, was destined for the rabbinate when he deserted the Yeshivah to take up wood-carving.
