The crisis in the municipal council of Jerusalem came to an end today when Daniel Auster, Jewish vice-mayor, was permitted to assume his duties by the Jewish organizations which had opposed his appointment.
After deliberations lasting for four days, a comprom### reached between the ### ganizations opposing A### pointment and those suppo### it. As a result of this compromise the Vaad Leumi, the Jewish National Council of Palestine, today issued an official communique, stating that “the Vaad Leumi and the Agudath Israel regret that the Palestine government has appointed Daniel Auster as vice-mayor and did not take into consideration the decision of the Jewish institutions that the Jewish councillor Haim Solomon should be appointed to this post.”
A meeting of the Sephardic Jewish community in Palestine today adopted a resolution to support Mr. Auster in his work as vice-mayor of Jerusalem. The Palestine Executive of the General Zionist party has also adopted a resolution requesting Mr. Auster not to resign from his post despite the opposition.
