After two weeks of internal fighting the newly elected municipal council of Jerusalem finally organized itself for normal work today and elected eight committees to supervise the various departments in the municipality.

Five of the committees named are presided over by Arab chairmen. The other three have Jewish chairmen.

The most important of the committees is charged with employment of municipal officials. It is presided over by Mayor Khaldi, but is composed in a manner which maintains an equilibrium for both the Jews and the Arabs. The same equilibrium is also maintained in the committee dealing with the financial affairs of the municipality. This committee is presided over by the Jewish vice-mayor, Daniel Auster. In three of the eight municipal committees, the Arabs constitute a majority.
