Anti-Semitic developments more dangerous than those in Nazi Germany will soon be faced by the Jews in Rumania, the Jewish Telegraphic Agency was told here today by a prominent Jewish leader.
The statement was made in the form of a warning to attract interested Jewish circles, The Jewish leader pointed out a tremendous rise in anti-Semitism, which is gaining ground steadily among political parties.
SEEKS TO OUTDO REICH
“The present tendency in Rumania is to exceed Germany in driving the Jews not only from public life but even from their economic positions,” the Jewish leader declared.
All this is done by means of legislation. Anti-Semitic propaganda on a large scale is financed in Rumania by Germany and has a tremendous effect upon the population.
PEASANT STAND
“No significance should be attached to the fact that the convention of the National Peasant Party rejected the suggestion of its leader, Vaida-Voevod, that certain anti-Jewish demands be incorporated into the program of the party,” the Jewish leader continued.
“It must be clear that the National Peasant Party is quite sympathetic to anti-Jewish legislation. If it has not adopted the anti-Semitic proposals of Vaida-Voevod, it did so for purely political and tactical reasons only.
“The leaders of this party are of the opinion that the open adoption of anti-Jewish paragraphs into the program of the party will have bad effects for Rumania abroad.
