Twenty Jewish prisoners of the 100 who went on a four-day hunger strike at the Acre jail in protest against their detainment without justification, were scheduled to be released under bail today, according to arrangements made between the jail administration and central Jewish organizations.
The remaining prisoners, all of whom have been detained on charges of having illegally entered the country, are to be released within the next few days. The Vaad Leumi, the Jewish National Council of Palestine, is speeding efforts to obtain the bail required. Each prisoner is to be under $500 bond and will have to report to the police whenever requested to do so during the next two months.
Many of the prisoners will probably remain in the country, since the government cannot deport them, in view of the fact that they have no passports.
