Thon ‘slur’ of Polish Deputy Aired in Sejm

The case lodged in the parliamentary tribunal against Dr. Joshpa Thon, leading Jewish deputy in the Polish parliament, by the anti-Semitic Deputy Arzischewsky, whom Dr. Thon allegedly called “liar,” opened here today, attracting great attention.

The case grew out of a charge by Deputy Arzischewsky that “the Jews are betraying the military secrets of Poland.” Dr. Thon, in whose presence the anti-Semitic deputy made the allegation, retorted in the presence of other deputies that “this is a mean lie.” The anti-Semitic deputy brought charges against Dr. Thon in the parliamentary court, stating that his honor had been sullied.

Arzischewsky, in his provocative remark concerning the Jews, referred to the speech which Dr. Thon made in the Polish parliament recently, and in which he complained that the taxation system is aiming to ruin the Jewish population in Poland. In his speech
