Prominent lay and professional workers, leaders in philanthropy and social welfare in ten Southern states, will attend the second annual Southern Regional Conference on Jewish Welfare to be held Sunday in New Orleans under the auspices of the National Council of Jewish Federations and Welfare Funds.
The chairman of the conference will be S. Walter Stern, president of the Jewish Charitable and Educational Federation of New Orleans. Representatives will att### from Mississippi, Louisiana, Tennessee, Florida, Georgia, Alabama. Arkansas, Texas, North Carol### and South Carolina.
SHRODER TO SPEAK
The conference will comprise four sessions. At the opening morning session, the discussion will deal largely with the problems of financing welfare work. William J. Shroder of Cincinnati, president of the national body, will address this session on “Federation as a Vital Force in the Jewish Community.” Rabbi Emil W. Leipziger, of New Orleans, will speak on “Jewish Welfare Funds.” Discussion will be led by Dr. Louis Levy, of Memphis; Harry Miller, of Chattanooga; Rabbi Julius Mark, of Nashville, and Mervyn H. Stern, of Birmingham.
George W. Rabinoff, of New York, associate director of the National Council, will address the luncheon session on “Lay Participation in Jewish Social Work.” The afternoon session will discuss “Jewish Social Service and the Development of Public Welfare,” with Harry L. Lurie, of New York director of the National Council leading the discussion. Miss Stella Loewenstein, of Memphis, Tenn., will speak on “Family Service and Child Care”; Miss Rose Brenner, of New Orleans, will discuss “Leisure Time and the Problem of Vocational Guidance”; Julius Goldman, of New Orleans, will speak on “Community Resources,” and Rabbi Louis Feigan, of Galveston, Texas, will speak on “The Problem of the Jewish Transient.”
The evening session will deal with the “Future of Jewish Welfare Work.” The speaker will be Dr. Sidney E. Goldstein of New York City.
