A real war between landlords and tenants of Palestine developed today as a result of the intention of the Palestine tenants to declare a general strike in protest against high rents and to compel the government to regulate rentals by law.
Fearing that the Palestine government may submit to the demands of the tenants, the association of landlords, at a stormy meeting here today unanimously adopted an ultimatum to be submitted to the government, urging that no steps be taken against the present rent system.

“If the government withdraws the present tenants’ law, we shall abstain from finishing the buildings at present under construction, and we shall also not start any new buildings,” the landlords declare in their ultimatum to the government.
At the same time, the association of tenants in Jerusalem today submitted to the government written evidence showing that the landlords have sent notices of proposed increases in rent, some of which demand an increase of from fifty to 100 per cent on the present rents paid. The tenants demand that the rents restriction ordinance in effect in Tel Aviv be extended to this city, thus limiting the rent to not more than $12 per month per room.
