The earliest example of plastic art known in Palestine has been unearthed at Jericho by the archeological expedition working there under Prof. Garstang.
The new find, a cult image in clay, was discovered underneath twenty feet of early Bronze Age deposits, and Professor Garstang has stated that it must date back to about 3000 B. C.
It was found immediately above the flint layers representing pre-historic man. The find is to be taken to the museum of Jerusalem.
Prof. Garstang regards the discovery as of the first importance.
The scientists under Prof. Garstang hope to uncover data which will throw light on the cultural development of the Jordan Valley in the early Bronze Age and before.
