Passover Closing of Schools Asked

The Jewish Sabbath Alliance, in a letter to Superintendent of Schools Harold G. Campbell which was made public Friday, has asked the Board of Education to start the Easter recess April 18 instead of the following day in order that Jewish teachers and pupils may observe Passover “without any disturbance or complications on account of conflict with a school day.”

The matter will come up for consideration at a meeting of the Board of Education next Wednesday. The first day of Passover this year falls on April 18.

The letter, which was signed by Dr. Bernard Drachman and William Rosenberg, president and executive secretary, respectively, of the alliance, contended that compliance with the request would be heartily approved by Christians and Jews alike, inasmuch as April 18 is Holy Thursday.
