The New York Herald Tribune reporting on the kidnapping by Nazis in Basle of the German-Jewish journalist, Berthold Jacob, says:
German emigrants in Paris fear that the Nazis shot Jacob after questioning him on his contacts and noting the names of his correspondents from his notebook. The Nazis had considered his writing in France as a menace to Hitlerism, especially since he frequently gave information concerning Germany’s re-armament.
