Twenty-seven directors to serve terms of from one to three years, and three honorary directors were elected at the annual meeting of the reorganized Syracuse Jewish Welfare Federation, at which all Jewish organizations of the city were represented.
The new board of directors represents a cross section of the community such as organized Jewish societies, fraternal groups, synagogues and also the contributors at large, as well as the local Jewish beneficiary agencies.
COLLABORATES WITH CHEST
The Syracuse Jewish Welfare Federation was reorganized Tuesday night on a democratic and efficient basis permitting closer cooperation with the Community Chest, which makes allotments to a number of local welfare agencies, and also providing for support from the Jewish Community for national and overseas causes. In addition to distribution of funds, the new Federation will also deal with local and national Jewish problems and public relationship.
Those elected, representing beneficiary agencies are: Charles Silverman, Mrs. Samuel Yalow, Isadore Shapiro, Reuben Gordon, Warren Winkelstein, L. L. Hurwitz, Moses Winkelstein, Abraham Rubenstein, and Dr. Aaron Burman. Representing the nonbeneficiary agencies are: A. Greason, Mrs. George Greenberg, Max Zimmerman, Rabbi Jesse Bienenfeld, Mrs. Morris Lavine, Dr. Mark Heiman, Rabbi Benjamin Friedman, T. Aaron Levy and Bernard B. Given.
Contributors will be represented by George Block, Dr. H. H. Haft, Benjamin Arnold, Ralph Shulman, David M. Holstein, Ben Zion Miller, Jacob Fleischman, H. Hiram Weisberg and Asher Markson. Honorary directors are Benjamin Stolz, Adolph M. Holstein and Isaac Markson.
