The Jews of Greater New York will be asked to contribute $1,250,000 towards the $3,250,000 campaign for the United Jewish Appeal, it was announced late Saturday by Felix M. Warburg, national chairman of the Appeal.

The campaign, which is sponsored by the Joint Distribution Committee and the American Palestine Campaign, opened its headquarters on Saturday at the Hotel Commodore with Harold Altschul as general director. The chairmen of the Greater New York campaign are I. Edwin Goldwasser, Nathan Straus and Michael Schaap. Paul M. Rosenthal is the treasurer and Abraham Liebovitz, associate treasurer, of the local campaign.

The campaign in the metropolitan district will open late in April, the announcement stated. The money raised is used for the relief of Jews in Germany and other European countries, and for the settlement of Jews in Palestine.
