Arrangements for a one-day stoppage of work by teachers in Jewish schools in New York were made at a meeting sponsored by the Central Committee of Hebrew Teachers Organizations at the Jewish Teachers’ Seminary, it was learned yesterday. The meeting was called to protest against the miserable conditions of the Jewish teachers in America. A date for the stoppage was not specified.
The meeting, which was attended by more than 250 teachers, adopted unanimously a demand for a twenty per cent increase in salary and for payment of salaries on time. Payment on a twelve-months’ basis is demanded, each teacher to be given one month’s vacation during the year.
The Central Committee for the Hebrew Teachers Organizations is composed of the Hebrew Teachers Union, the Jewish Teachers Association, the Association of Yeshiva Teachers and the teachers of the Yeshiva College and the Herzliah High School.
