The president of the Jewish community in Lodz, Leib Minzberg and two Jewish members of the Lodz municipality, were injured in an anti-Jewish attack which occurred last night at a session of the Lodz Municipal Council, when anti-Semitic members of the Council fought for the introduction of an “Aryan paragraph” to eliminate Jews fro mall municipal institutions.

The fight started when the Government Commissar of Lodz announced that any restrictions against Jews in line with the “Aryan paragraph” practiced by the Nazis is not constitutional. He therefore annulled a decision adopted two weeks ago by the council to eliminate Jews from contesting for the prize which the municipality has voted for the best literary work this year.

INSULTS SHOUTED

The annulment provoked a tremendous stir among the anti-Semitic members of the council all of whom are representatives of the anti-Semitic National Democratic party (Endek. The leader of the National Democratic wing, Kopczynski, shouted insulting remarks against the Jews and against the government.

The Jewish members of the Municipal Council protested against Kopczynski’s insulting outburst. This aroused more resentment on the part of the Endek councillors who constitute a majority in the council. They let fly with fists at the Jewish councillors, injuring Mr. Minzberg, the president of the Jewish community, and the two Mouncillors M. Margolis and S. Bialer.

A report in the Polish press early this week stated that the government intends to dissolve the Lodz Council which is dominated by the anti-Semitic National Democratic party and which is also opposed to the present Pilsudski regime.
