Mr. Stryker, that he had qualified for various engineering posts for when he had been examined by Park Department and Work Relief officials only to be told over a period of many weeks that “they would keep him in mind.”

His qualifications were attested to before the committee yesterday by Major Wilfred Boughton, Personnel Chief of the Bureaus to which Mr. Sharney applied. Major Boughton said that “there was no question” that Mr. Sharney was qualified to hold any of the posts for which he applied. He also noted that there was an ample demand for men for such engineering jobs as Mr. Sharney sought.

Mr. Sharney, who is married and has two children, is now on the Home Relief rolls. The only explanation that Major Boughton would vouchsafe was that the department made a practice of filling jobs from other sources than the Home Relief rolls.
