Delegates from forty national and local Jewish women’s organizations assembled yesterday at the Temple Emanu-El to hear Dr. Kurt Rosenfeld address the initial meeting of the Women’s Conference for Palestine Land Redemption.
Dr. Rosenfeld, former Prussian Minister of Justice and now refugee in America, traced the evolution of the Nazi rise to power in Germany from its beginning before the World War to the present day. He urged a united front of anti-Nazi organizations as the logical method of alleviating the condition of the Jews in Germany.
The conference was held under the auspices of the Jewish National Fund which redeems the land in Palestine for refugees and pioneers. Mrs. Israel Goldstein presided in the absence of Judge Anna Moscowitz Kross who was called to Florida.
In her opening remarks Mrs. Goldstein expressed the hope that the conference would result in closer cooperation of the organizations represented in the redeeming of land so necessary to the placing of refugees. The JNF organization set-up was explained in detail by Mrs. Goldstein.
The resolutions adopted by the conference voiced a plea to every Jewish woman—regardless of her status—to share in the upbuilding of Palestine. Since the Jewish National Fund recognizes no party lines, although it is an integral part of the Zionists ideology, it was resolved that non-Zionists, as well as those of Zionist persuasion, participate in its program.
A women’s committee was created to contact all Jewish women’s organizations, the task being facilitated by the appointment of a National Fund chairman in each organization. It is to be the function of these chairmen to bring to the attention of her members the aims and ideals of the JNF and to further the work of this fund through the distribution of boxes to the individual members of the organization.
It was further resolved that a tax of five cents be imposed on all tickets for Jewish functions, the proceeds to be devoted to the JNF for its land redemption fund.
Dr. Rosenfeld in an interview with the Jewish Daily Bulletin stated that the mysterious death of Dora Fabian and Mathilde Wurm-Adler in London was no mystery to him. He said that he was positive that the women were murdered by Nazi representatives as the German refugees had been most influential in uncovering the work of Nazi agents in France and England.
In addition to Dr. Rosenfeld the program included addresses by Stella Adler, Jewish star of the American theatre, as guest artist; Mrs. Rebekah Kohut, honorary chairman of committee; Mrs. Israel Davidson, president of the United Synagogue of America, and Mrs. Richard Gottheil.
