The Executive of the Jewish Agency today received official information from the Palestine government that 8,500 immigration certificates will be granted to Jews for the next six months under the new labor schedule.
This is less than half the number of certificates which the Executive demanded from the Palestine government. It is also less than the number of certificates granted six months ago, when 9,700 were assigned to the Jewish Agency, of which 2,200 were deducted to offset the number of tourists who settled permanently in Palestine.
FARMERS BODY TO GET VISAS
In view of the shortage of Jewish labor in Palestine, the number of certificates just granted for the next six months has not provoked any special enthusiasm. Some of these certificates will have to be assigned by the Jewish Agency to the Jewish Farmers Association in order to bring over qualified farm-hands from Poland and other East European countries.
