The engagement of Medora Roosevelt, a cousin of the President of the United States and daughter of George Emlen Roosevelt of New York, to Massino Treves, a member of a distinguished Jewish family in Milan, was announced here today.

The marriage will take place in New York, the announcement states.

The announcement created a sensation in the social and aristocratic circles of Italy. Signor Treves is associated with an Italian insurance concern. Miss Roosevelt, who is seventeen years old, has been studying here for several months.

Miss Roosevelt, returning Thursday on the liner Conte di Savoia with her sister from a visit to Italy, said that the report that she would be married to Massino Treves, the son of an Italian banker and insurance broker, is “substantially correct,” but that the announcement is premature. She said that she would leave for Bermuda on Saturday to see her parents, and if any announcements of her reported engagement are to be made, they will be issued “in the regular way.”
