A decision to refrain from affiliation either with the American Jewish Committee or the American Jewish Congress was made at the fourth annual convention of the Arkansas Jewish Assembly.
More than 150 delegates were in attendance from all the Jewish communities in Arkansas, the only State to have such an organization. The Assembly is composed of Temple, Council of Jewish Women and B’nai B’rith groups.
The Assembly voted to establish a scholarship at the University of Arkansas to enable a worthy Jewish student to continue his studies in that institution. The scholarship was founded in honor of the late Annette Weiner Rhine of Hot Springs, wife of Rabbi A. B. Rhine. Rabbi Rhine, who founded the Assembly and was its first president, was reelected honorary president. Leading parts in the three-day convention were taken by Rabbi Morris Clark of Pine Bluff, Carl I. Miller of Helena, Samuel Teitelbaum of Fort Smith, and Ira E. Sanders of Little Rock
