Community in Warsaw, the Agudath Israel Organization, the Association of Jewish Merchants and other Jewish organizations sent messages of condolence to the Marshal’s widow, to President Moscicki and to Premier Slawek.
The messages sent by the Jewish Deputies Club to Premier Slawek reads:
“We unite with the entire nation in unconsolable grief and in deep mourning at the death of the first Polish Marshal, Josef Pilsudski. We pay our homage to the historical achievements of the founder and builder of a greater Poland whose memory will eternally remain imprinted in the hearts of the Jewish people.”
The Jewish press, in articles on Pilsudski, declares that Polish Jewry has been “orphaned,” together with the entire Polish nation. The Jewish papers emphasize that Pilsudski embodied the best traditions of Polish tolerance and liberty for other nationalities.
“Always in times of joy and sorrow, the Jews turned toward Pilsudski. His death concludes an historical era for all races within the Polish State,” an editorial in one of the newspapers declared.
