All Jewish stores and shops here were closed today during the funeral of Marshal Pilsudski, whose remains were removed today to Cracow for burial.
Two impressive services, one civil and one military, were held today in honor of Marshal Pilsudski in the Tlomacki Synagogue, the largest in Warsaw.
The service for Jewish civilians was held in the morning, while the military service took place in the afternoon. Both services were attended by large crowds.
HUMOR PAGES DROPPED
The week-end editions of the Jewish newspapers which usually appear on Friday and carry a page of humor, omitted this page today as a mark of mourning for Pilsudski.
The resolution adopted yesterday by the Warsaw Rabbinate proclaiming a full month of mourning for Pilsudski was extended today to include the entire Jewish population of Poland by a special order issued by the Agudath Harabonim, the Association of Orthodox Rabbis of Poland.
Thousands of Jews were among the masses who stood for hours in the rain outside St. John’s Cathedral, where the body of Pilsudski lay in state.
William C. Bullitt, the American Ambassador to Moscow, who arrived here to represent the United States government at the funeral ceremony, placed a wreath at Pilsudski’s bier.
