Open incitement to pogroms in revenge for the petition submitted to the League of Nations protesting the anti-Jewish activities in the Free City, featured a speech today by Herr Forster, Nazi leader of Danzig.
The increased anti-Jewish agitation which the Nazis in Danzig have developed since yesterday “as a reply to the Jewish complaint to the League of Nations” has created a tense situation.
Jews are molested on the streets; anti-Jewish slogans are shouted by Nazi youths in public places, and defamatory inscriptions are painted on walls in many sections of the city.
URGES EXECUTIONS
Addressing a large audience, Herr Forster accused the Jews of plotting a war against Germany and of devaluating the currency in Danzig. “In the event of war all Jews should be executed by firing squads,” he urged. He emphasized that the Jewish petition to the League of Nations complaining of the violation of Jewish rights in Danzig by the Nazi administration, has infuriated the “Aryan” population.
Anti-Jewish speeches similar to Herr Forster’s were delivered today in various parts of the city by other Nazi leaders. The speeches have disturbed Jewish leaders since nothing can be done to stop them.
The petition to the League will be taken up at the coming session of the Council in Geneva. It enumerates a series of anti-Jewish actions taken by the Nazi administration of the Free City to deprive the Jews of their rights, which is in direct violation of the provisions of the League of Nations under whose supervision Danzig is administered.
Sean Lester, the League’s High Commissioner in Danzig, has submitted a report to the League of Nations which substantiates the facts enumerated in the Jewish petition.
