A general strike of railway workers was threatened here today as a result of a “new deal” ordinance issued by the government this week regulating workers’ wages throughout the country.
The railway workers expressed their dissatisfaction with the ordinance, charging that the wage increases provided in it are not sufficient to meet the higher cost of living.
The ordinance provides for a minimum wage for railway workers; for adequate notice before dismissal; for a 48-hour working week and for twenty-five per cent extra compensation for overtime.
