A scathing attack on the anti-religious propaganda conducted in Soviet Russia was made today at the opening of the annual Anglo-Jewish Preachers Conference by Chief Rabbi Hertz of England.
Rabbi Hertz declared that the religious element in Soviet Jewry is undergoing a slow extermination. The Soviet rulers are fanatical apostles of Godlessness, he said.
Referring to the German situation, Rabbi Hertz criticized the German universities for doing nothing to counteract the Nazi barbarism.
HITS INDIFFERENCE
“Most terrible of all is the fact that the world has come to accept as normal the outlawing of 500,000 human being in Central Europe and that outside governments consider this situation as something in which they have not the least right to interfere,” the Chief Rabbi said.
Declaring that the present situation of the Jews is dark, Rabbi Hertz voiced enthusiasm at the promise which Palestine holds for the Jews.
